Canada’s housing market is cooling, with home prices and asking rents declining in several major markets. Yet affordability remains difficult for many Canadians, while construction is slowing and the country continues to face a significant housing supply gap. Government efforts to increase construction may help, but the evidence suggests that supply alone may not resolve Canada’s broader affordability challenge.

Artificial intelligence is changing work less by replacing entire occupations than by reshaping the tasks within them. Research suggests AI can improve productivity, narrow some skill gaps and create new opportunities, while also increasing workload, displacing certain tasks and potentially widening inequalities. The future of work may depend not on whether AI replaces people, but on how humans choose to work alongside it.

The transition to low-carbon energy is already underway, but replacing fossil fuels is far more complex than simply building more renewable power. Governments must balance affordability, reliability, infrastructure, resource supply and environmental goals while expanding electricity systems. From renewables and nuclear power to storage and transmission, the challenge is ultimately not choosing one technology, but building an energy system that works.
